Information
for GPs
As
of the 1st July, 2006, Medicare rebates became available to patients
on Enhanced Primary Care plans for Exercise Physiology services. The MBS Item
number is 10953. If you wish to include Exercise Physiology services for your
patients simply complete the referral form as usual, noting the number of
services required. Forward this with the GPMP and TCA to Integrated Physical
Performance by fax (4921 2539), or hand to the patient to bring with them to the
appointment. Information regarding EPC plans can be found at the Medicare
Allied Health and Dental Initiatives website. Allied
health group services are also now available for group services to Type II
diabetic patients.
Some
patients may eligible for Exercise Physiology services under the MAHS
plan. As a registered MAHS provider, patients are referred to me via the
Capricornia Division of General Practice, who then forwards the referral to me.
I will make contact with the patient or the referrer as appropriate to then
commence consultations with the patient.
DVA
patients are now eligible for treatment by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
On completion of a D904 Referral Form, the Veteran is eligible for treatment
according to their condition. See the following fact sheet (HSV 30 - Exercise
Physiology – Information for the Veteran Community) on the DVA
FactSheet website for more information.
Finally,
patients may be able to receive rebates via their health fund for Exercise
Physiology services. Funds such as MBF, NIB and other have rebates depending on
the level of cover. Have the patient check with their health fund to determine
their cover. Referral may be by letter, or referral pads are available upon
request. A .pdf version of the referral form may be downloaded here.
Following a GP referred consultation, patient reports are forwarded within 7
days, outlining patient assessment, interventions and recommendations for future
management.
